What to bring

Here is your checklist to make your trip to Southern New Mexico more enjoyable:

Water - You will be in the semi-arid high desert so keep at least two full quart bottles per person. You want to make sure that you are hydrated.

Sunblock/Sunscreen - Bring a bottle of at least SPF 30 (the higher the factor the better) to protect against sunburn and skin cancer.

Hat - A wide-brimmed hat (better yet, a rain hat) is a must, especially to cool your head and keepi unstroke at bay from the unrelenting summer sun.

Umbrella - During the summer, we get monsoon rains. They don't last long but it is always a good thing to be prepared.

A Longsleeved Shirt - To protect your forearms from sunburn, and help regulate your core temperature.

Sweater or Jacket - Depending on the time of year, it can be warm or pleasant during the day and cool off at night. New Mexico's temperature swings may have you peeling off layer after layer of clothing after breakfast, and putting it back on, layer by layer, by late afternoon or early evening.

Walking Shoes - Bring comfortable walking shoes as the ground is rough and you may be hiking.

Map - If you get off the beaten path, it's good to know your way back to civilization.
