Carrizozo Cowboy Days

A fun-filled day celebrating the cowboy and the cowboy way of life.

Put on your western hat and Levi's. Slip on your boots and cowboy shirt and join in the fun of celebrating the COWBOY. This is a way of life that is a part of Lincoln County territory.

TO COWBOY FANS EVERYWHERE:

“For many of us the cowboy is still the most interesting of all our American heroes....He is fond of dogs and children, invariably polite to women, completely dependable, honorable in his dealings with others, and willing and able to perform any task that can be asked of man and a horse....There was a time when the working cowboy was a prominent figure in the western United States and Canada. As the country became modernized, the cowboy became less important economically.”* (Richard Farnsworth)

The cowboy life is one of hard work, danger, joy, excitement, and wild times: life based on solid family values and a life of deep satisfaction. The tragedy is that the cowboy’s lifestyle is slowly fading in America. Many of us have had glimpses of the cowboy life and even experienced brief journeys along the trail, but there is little that we can do to forestall the decline of this way of life in our modern world. We can keep the tradition alive by joining together, today, to pay tribute to these American icons, the true COWBOYS, and celebrate the memory of these western heroes and their memorable life style. We can pause in our busy schedules to listen to the music, hear the stories, and poetry, see the cowboys mount their horses and work the cattle. We can organize celebrations to view the cowboy and pass on this culture to our young. We can celebrate the memories how he endured to establish a life in this rugged Western Frontier. This is what the Carrizozo Cowboy Days is all about. People working to preserve our colorful past by setting aside a time to honor a life style that has affected everyone in our nation in one form or another.

The Carrizozo Cowboy Days celebration is organized and conducted by a committee of sixteen (16) ranchers, cowboys, businessmen and women, professionals, laborers, and afficionados who volunteer their time and resources to keep alive this Western Tradition. There are many individuals that deeply feel the kinship to the American Cowboy and wish to share a part in keeping these old traditions alive. Many of our pioneer families and their offspring, businessmen and women, professionals, laborers, and even school aged children throughout Lincoln County and New Mexico want to have a part in keeping the Cowboy memory alive and well. We need your support to keep this event ongoing for our present and future generations.

The Carrizozo Cowboy Days Committee invites all who believe in this Western Cowboy life to help us maintain this celebration with your financial support. The enclosed brochure outlines our goals and work. The only financial support of this celebration comes from gifts, donations, and sales of our T-shirts and posters.
