New Mexico’s Microbrews and Brewpubs
Salud!
In New Mexico you can drink distinctive local beer almost anywhere you visit. Approximately two dozen independent operations—microbreweries, brewpubs, brew houses, and taprooms—have sprung up from Artesia in the state’s southeast corner to Farmington in the northwest, with the biggest concentration in and around Albuquerque.
New Mexico beers are showing up increasingly among the winners at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup. All the breweries whip up some seasonal and special production beers, including some brews from local ingredients, so be sure to check them out.
Our breweries are small, friendly operations, but because the staff is usually limited or engaged in multiple tasks, it’s always a good idea to call ahead if you’d like a tour. Breweries and brewpubs offer lots of live music, so check their websites for schedules. Assume menus of burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, hot wings, burritos, and other simple, substantial fare unless mentioned otherwise. In-house Oktoberfest celebrations usually pop up in both September and October, but don’t wait until then to sample. You’ll have fun anytime at all.
