Old Spanish Trail

The Old Spanish Trail is a historic trade route that connected the northern New Mexican settlement of Santa Fe with settlement of Los Ángeles in California. Approximately 1,200 miles (2,000 km) long, it ran though areas of high mountains, arid deserts, and deep canyons. Explored by European travelers as early as 1776, the Trail saw extensive use by pack trains from about 1829 until the mid-1850s.
