Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail 2011 Guidelines
The purpose of the Trail is to expose visitors to the state’s green chile cheeseburgers, and offer information that encourages and aids visitors’ statewide travel to enjoy this beloved and iconic dish.
Today’s travelers frequently cite culinary attractions as a major reason to visit a destination. The Trail exposes visitors to the state’s beloved green chile cheeseburgers, specifically, and to New Mexico’s unique food heritage generally, and offers information that encourages and aids visitors’ statewide travel to enjoy this iconic burger and other dishes.
Nomination Process
- Restaurateurs serving green chile cheeseburgers are invited to nominate their establishment for consideration by 6:00 PM on Monday, February 28, 2011.
- Nominations are open to New Mexico-based restaurants with a business license, that are in good standing with the NM Health Department, and that have a bricks-and-mortar location. Indoor seating is not a requirement.
- Restaurants may have multiple outlets if the corporate headquarters is based in New Mexico. Not all outlets, however, may be listed in the final Trail maps.
- The green chile cheeseburger must be on the restaurant’s regular menu.
- A burger must include at least one patty of ground beef, bison, or veggie mixture, green chile, cheese, and a bun or other bread. Other toppings can be included.
- Prospective restaurants or their supporters must submit their nomination on the Nomination Form adjacent to these guidelines.
Voting Process
- Eligible nominations will be listed on this website.
- Voting will take place on this website from 6:00 AM March 1 through 6:00 PM March 31, 2011. Only one vote will be accepted from a specific email address.
Final Selection Process
- The top 30 qualified vote-getters will be included.
- Other restaurants will be selected by a committee of at least three culinary professionals organized by the Tourism Department’s Culinary Liaison. The committee will consider the initial nominations, input from area convention and visitors’ bureau staffs, and previous media recommendations and awards. Further, choice of these restaurants will take into consideration diversity in geography and ownership, perceived value, and the inclusion of New Mexico grown or produced ingredients. These choices also will consider locations that the average visitor can be encouraged reasonably to seek out and the stated purpose of the Trail.
- The Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail will appear on this website no later than Friday, April 29, 2011.
Questions about any portion of the process should be addressed via email to the Tourism Department’s Culinary Liaison, Cheryl Alters Jamison, at tastingnm@gmail.com
