The Pajarito Environmental Education Center
The nature center of Los Alamos, with exhibits of local plants, animals, and geology.
PEEC was founded to create hands-on learning opportunities for people of all ages to discover the rich natural heritage of Northern New Mexico. The PEEC Nature Center is located in Los Alamos, a location uniquely perched between the low elevation ecosystem of the Rio Grande Valley and the high elevation ecosystems of the Pajarito Plateau and the Jemez Mountains. The resulting natural diversity provides many opportunities for exploratory learning.
The PEEC Nature Center is free and open to the public. Stop in to pick up a trail guide or to see exhibits of local live animals. Hands-on displays provide information about local geology, birds, butterflies, animals, and plants. Demonstration gardens highlight water-wise gardening. The Center also includes a herbarium, library, classroom, and connections to local hiking trails. The gift shop offers publications about local plants, animals, and trails.
