Located atop the Ocotillo Hills overlooking Carlsbad and the Pecos River Valley the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park connects people with the diverse plant and animal life of the Chihuahuan Desert. Come experience North America's largest desert first hand. The 1.3 mile self guided trail winds through various habitat zones like; sandhills, gypsum hills, desert uplands, an arroyo and Pinon Juniper zone while viewing animals adapted to live in this arid environment. Come face to face with the roadrunner, golden eagle, mexican wolf, mountain lion and rocky mountain elk just to name a few. Interactive interpretive exhibits are found in the visitor center and nocturnal exhibit. Be sure and plan a stop at our Gift Shop were proceeds go to support the zoo.
