Events:
Galllup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial - The All Indian Invitational Rodeo, street parades, ceremonial dances, arts and crafts, food booths and the Queen's Pageant draw thousands to Gallup and the beautiful Red Rock Park (the center of most activities for the 88th Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial.
Gathering of Nations - Held annual in Albuquerque, more than 3,000 dancers, representing more than 500 tribes from Canada, the United States and Mexico, compete in several categories of dances. About 800 people participate in the Indian Traders Market hel that weekend.
Santa Fe Indian Market - Each year the Santa Fe Indian Market includes 1,200 artists from about 100 tribes who show their work in over 600 booths. The event attracts an estimated 100,000 visitors to Santa Fe from all over the world.
Tribal Feast Days - All year long there are feast days often open to the public across the state.
Zuni Harvest Festival - Zuni people were skilled and successful farmers long before the arrival of the Spanish.
Dances:
Corn Dance - Tablets are worn on the women’s heads; often the principal fiesta ceremony of the pueblos.
Matachines dance - Matachines (Spanish matachin, or religious dancer) are bands of mummersand are also very popular in Northern New Mexico and around the Rio Grande.
Buffalo Dance - Like all Animal Dances, the Buffalo Dance is a celebration of thanksgiving.
Food:
Fry Bread - Frybread is a Native American food, found throughout the United States (also known as "squaw bread" in some areas.)
Grilled Corn - You can find this delicious and simple dish at many of the fiestas and festivals throughout New Mexico.
Oven Bread - In the pueblos, this bread is baked in outdoor ovens called hornos.
