New Mexico Resident’s Persistence ‘Recognized’ by State Senate

Donald L. Robertson, who advocated for more than a dozen years to make the hot-air balloon the Official State Aircraft of New Mexico, was “acknowledged for his contribution to the history of hot-air ballooning in New Mexico; and
recognized “for his many contributions to hot-air ballooning” by the New Mexico State Senate in February 2008.

Robertson, a New Mexico resident for 35 years, first asked the Legislature in 1992 to designate the Hot-Air Balloon as the Official State Aircraft, and was finally rewarded for his patience and persistence in 2005 when his “dream became law.”

New Mexico is the hot-air ballooning “Capital of the World,” and the Hot-Air Ballooning Club in Albuquerque numbers more than 800 members.
