New Mexico History Museum Shares '47 Stars'

47 Star FlagThe Flag Act of 1818 set forth a rule that no new stars could be added to the flag until the Fourth of July immediately following a state’s admission to the union. Thanks to that mandate, New Mexicans hoping to share their pride at becoming the 47th state were essentially forced into committing their first illegal acts as U.S. citizens, since the 48th star – Arizona – sabotaged the timeline.

From January 6, 2012 through November 25, 2012, the New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe commemorates that dip into the dark side with “47 Stars,” an exhibit of the officially unofficial 47-star flag. “47 Stars” joins a collection of long-term exhibits commemorating statehood.

Farm & Ranch Celebrates Centennial with Statehood Memorabilia

The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces has unveiled a much-anticipated exhibition called: "The Land of Enchantment: Commemorating the Centennial of New Mexico Statehood," running through September 16, 2012.



The exhibit features the state's largest collection of statehood celebration memorabilia of past events (40th, 50th, 60th and 75th anniversaries).

Roswell Museum and Art Center Celebrates 'Diamond of the Pecos'

roswell“Diamond of the Pecos,” a collaboration between the Roswell Museum and Art Center and the Historical Center for Southeast New Mexico, will focus on the history and accomplishments of Roswell since its inception as a trading post in the Pecos Valley along the Goodnight-Loving Cattle trail in the 1860s. Since the beginnings of that simple outpost, Roswell has grown into the hub of southeastern New Mexico.
