Frisco Box Hot Springs
Frisco Box Hot Springs is more of a warm spring because the 98 degree F water cools off considerably in the small concrete tub. The tub captures one of several small hot-spring seeps along the banks of the San Francisco River. The small concrete pool does not detract from the beautiful and natural setting of the hot springs.Set in the high pine forest of the San Francisco Mountains, Frisco Box Hot Springs is a great spring to visit if you like wilderness solitude. The Forest Service opened a primitive route, which follows infrequently used pack trails. The hike back is uphill so allow for extra time on your return.
Directions:
Obtain current info at the Luna, NM ranger station. From US 180 go north on FS 19 and turn right (east) on FS 210 to a private property gate. Go through the gate, carefully closing it behind you, and continue east until the road becomes impassable. Park and hike an additional 1.5 miles east, crossing the river 6 times. On the south bank look for a pipe and sign, "Frisco Box Spring." Follow a worn, uphill path to the spring.
