The present settlement was established in 1898 to support the construction of the El Paso and Northeastern Railroad. Today Alamogordo has become an inspiration to Hollywood stars, film makers, and romantics alike, offering miles and miles of pristine white sands, and light years of space exploration, in this galaxy and beyond.

Then take in an out-of-this world cinematic experience at the IMAX Theater. See the wildlife at New Mexico's oldest zoo, Alameda Zoo, and then take a train ride through Alameda Park. Cloudcroft

“...Cloudcroft will make you feel right at home, with friendliness. Join us today in a playland of romantic travel”

At the summit of the Sacramento Mountains, 9,000 feet above stress level, the romantic mountain village of Cloudcroft owes its existence to the beauty that surrounds it. Impressed by the white clouds slipping by at almost ground level, it was a railroad crew (circa 1898) who chose the name of Cloudcroft, meaning a cloud in a field. Beautiful scenery and spectacular unspoiled vistas are encountered at every turn. High alpine meadows and cool air are a welcome relief on mid-summer days sprinkled with mountain showers that come and go quickly, but leave behind a variety of wildflowers that blanket the meadows and line the roads. Surrounded by Lincoln National Forest, romantic activities include picnicking, camping, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and off-road four-wheel excursions. Here bear, turkey, elk, deer, antelope and mountain lion roam free.

Come explore, unwind, and rejuvenate in the Old West village of Cloudcroft. Village shops specialize in handmade crafts, many from local artisans. A downtown ice-rink makes for unforgettable memories, and the Lodge Resort, a New Mexico landmark built by the railroad in 1901, offers romantic accommodations, dining, and the highest nine-hole golf course in New Mexico. A quiet, quaint and scenic village with year-round events and activities, Cloudcroft will make you right feel at home, with friendliness. Join us today in a playland of romantic travel.
