Northwest region of New MexicoFarmington: 100 Years of Change - Ongoing Exhibit

The rich history of Farmington’s past from early pioneer settlement to the present-day is displayed in this exhibition. Created to celebrate Farmington’s centennial year, the exhibit highlights many of the people, places, businesses and events that made Farmington what it is today. The exhibition explores early settlement history, the area’s agricultural past and the growth and development of the town to a regional city. Historical videos run several times during the day.

Three Waters Trading Post - Ongoing Exhibit

The exhibit features a walk-through replica of a 1930s trading post with a bull pen stocked with period goods and artifacts, a pawn room and office. The Trading Post Interior showcases jewelry and rugs, a computer station and trading posts location map are located outside the replica post. Many of the objects used in the exhibit have been donated by local trading post families.

The Trading Post exterior exhibit is a portion of the long-term exhibits planned for the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park. It is located within the timeline of the Farmington: 100 Years of Change exhibit. The Three Waters Trading Post is funded in part by a $150,000 donation from the United Indian Traders Association and is part of a joint oral history project with Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ.

The Nature Center was originally designed to overlook a wetlands of one of the oxbows which once existed along the Animas River. The wetlands were constructed and the wildlife have inhabited it. The wetlands serve as a refuge for wildlife and provides people an unique viewing opportunity from the Nature Center and specific points on the trail.

The Stardome is an inflatable planetarium and it will be up and running for this event. Explore the solar system with Dave Meyers, Museum Education Coordinator.
