Well-known for the arts, the Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale will be celebrating its 38th year as one of the most entertaining arts & crafts fairs in northern New Mexico. Some of the finest artists come from all over the state to show their art at the Holiday Sale, held every year on the weekend before Thanksgiving in the historic Village of Placitas. On November 23-24, the art show will be from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am to 4:30 pm on Sunday.

A tradition that has lasted thirty-eight years, the Placitas Holiday Sale has earned the reputation of a show to “not miss,” and grown to more than eighty artists that come from all over New Mexico.

The many artists, painters, print makers, ceramic and glass artists, woodworkers, silk painters, photographers, gourd artists, jewelers, metal artists will bring their handmade work to sell at the show. Homemade clothing, leather goods, hand-carved furniture, and much more art will be on display at the three central locations. Site #1, Las Huerta Winery; Site #2, The Big Tent, next to the Presbyterian Church and Site #3 the Placitas Elementary School.

The Placitas Holiday Sale is spotlighting ceramic artists Sandra and Michael Kadisak from Cochiti, New Mexico as the 2019 featured artists of the show. Known for their whimsical earthenware sculptures of animals and little people, Sandra and Michael Kadisak have been artists their whole lives. Both artists design each piece together with the goal of creating a form with a sense of life and motion.

Inspired by the natural world, childhood memories, and the environment of New Mexico the creation of the Kadisaks’ unique pottery and sculpture is motivated by their love for nature. Themes include animals, birds, insects and their love of old lore. Their stoneware pottery is crafted using wheel, rolling pin, and coil, with forms including vessels, platters and bowls. Hand-painted vibrant patterns of luminous color detail the surface of each piece.

Food and drinks will be available at each of the sites. At Site #1, Stuffed Lust Sopapilla Co will be serving their authentic New Mexican style stuffed sopapillas with a twist of interesting ingredients. At the Big Tent, Site #2, The Chile Pepper Café operated by the Presbyterian Church kitchen will be open next door and they will be cooking a variety of homemade foods. Site #3, at the Placitas Elementary School there will be Sanchez Tacos serving their “famous” traditional tacos, burritos and other New Mexican dishes.

There will be delicious food served at each of the three sites and at Site #1 Las Huertas Winery will be offering Gruet Sparkling white wine and Chardonnay, Milagro Merlot, and Marble Brewery products.

Nestled at the foot of the Sandia Mountains and known for its beauty, Placitas is 25 miles north of Albuquerque and 50 miles south of Santa Fe. Visitors can take exit #242 from I-25 and drive east on Highway 165 for 6 miles to reach the village.

Colorful signs will lead the way.
