This symposium will feature panel discussions, exhibits, and live vintage baseball games. The events will take place at Fort Bayard National Historic Landmark, 6 miles east of Silver City. An opening reception at the New Deal Theater on the grounds of the Landmark will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 18th. Panel discussions will take place at the Theater from 9 am to 2:45 pm on Saturday, Octobeer 19th. Among the topics that will be explored is participation in the Copper League in the 1920s by former members of the Chicago "Black Sox" who had been banned as a result of a gambling scandal in the 1919 World Series. Vintage baseball games will be played at nearby Bataan Park at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 20th. The symposium is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the New Mexico Humanities Council, the Village of Santa Clara, and the Grant County Lodgers Tax.
