La Fiesta del Valle de Española por Don Juan de Oñate, or more commonly known as the Española Valley Fiestas, was established in 1933 to celebrate the historical arrival of Spanish Conquistador, Don Juan de Oñate y Salazar, to the beautiful Española Valley. Since then, the Fiestas have become an integral part of the culture and history behind the place simply called, El Valle . Taking place the second weekend of July, the Fiestas are held at the Plaza de Española in downtown Española. In front of the Misión y Convento. Which is a replica of the original church that once stood at New Mexico's first capital in San Gabriel Yunque-Ounige . Festivities include Ceremonial Masses and Blessings, a Torch Run, Grandstand Entertainment, a Carnival, the largest Annual dance-the Gran Baile, Excellent Food, and a Grand Parade to close up the festivities for the weekend. The people of the Española Valley are proud to celebrate their culture and heritage and invite you to partake in our annual fiestas! Visit our website to see a full list of events.
