with award-winning photographer Craig Varjabedian
"Santa Fe is America’s answer to France’s Provence, the place with the luminous light discovered by the artists in the late 19th century; a place with ancient cultures that are not veneers laid over the landscape, not transplants, but that have grown up in symbiosis with the land, and truly belong." Henry Shukman, writer
Autumn in New Mexico. The last sturdy wildflowers lighting up the hills. Aspens turning gold in the mountains. Piñon smoke rising in the evening air. Northern New Mexico is sand and sage, plains and mesas, flame-colored cliffs —surrounded by sky and clouds that herald the change of time and weather. Join award winning photographer Craig Varjabedian this fall for four days to capture one of their favorite seasons in this enchanted land.
THE WORKSHOP |
The sun will rise over adobe churches and we will be there to witness and photograph. At sunset, cliffs will turn gold and crimson, and our cameras will focus on this miraculous change and beauty. This workshop is both a celebration and a challenge – to see the magic and beauty of the Land of Enchantment and to make your own images, from adobe details to magnificent wide-open landscapes. Wandering over the rocky hillsides, we’ll have the chance to see a unique New Mexico – the essential land in all its beauty and simplicity.
This workshop will be guided by award-winning Craig Varjabedian who has spent over 30 years photographing New Mexico and will share
his favorite places with you. The land and light of New Mexico has drawn artists, painters, and photographers for more than a century with its quaint adobe architecture, brilliant light and multi-cultural flavors of the Native Americans, Spanish and the Old West. You will photograph this enchanted land with Craig, in an unique environment in an atmosphere of adventure and discovery.

Craig Varjabedian, the founder and main instructor at Eloquent Light, is an award-winning photographer who explores the back roads of the American West, making profound pictures of the land and the people who live on it, telling stories. . . one photograph at a time. A gifted teacher, Craig has taught photography to people from around the world for over thirty years.
“After taking several different photography courses with Craig Varjabedian at Eloquent Light over a period of several years, I have recommended Craig to many of my fellow photographers. Early in my photography development, Craig’s style was one of guiding me to understanding not only why I was photographing a scene (its meaning or concept) but considering other vantage points than the most obvious one. I have taken several courses with other photographers, but I can unconditionally state that I always learn more from Craig in one class than all the others combined.”
