All-day extravaganza, featuring a 1979 and older antique car show from 8-3pm at Young Plaza just south of Broadway Street as well as a 1980 and younger car show with motorcycles, at the City of Hobbs employee parking, just east of City Hall in Downtown Hobbs . The show will have multiple categories that will be judged by various judges from the Road Runner Car Club and other custom car experts. The cost for entry is $20 per car. Forms can be picked up at the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, Lea County Center for the Arts, Tall Man Customs and Roadrunner antique car club. Local businesses, organizations and food vendors will also be on hand to provide information and take care of all your hunger needs. Other festivities include a food truck competition and car cruise for Hobbs August Nites competition vehicles, starting at 5:30pm. Security and a first-aid tent will be on location as well as a food court. Hobbs August Nites will cap off its evening with a free live concert from 6-9pm on the Shipp Street Plaza, featuring the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s sounds of travelling Blues band, Greg O’ Brien & the Spoodoo Cadillacs. The winning band from the 2017 Battle of the Bands Competition will open for the Hobbs August Nites concert. The winner(s) from the 1979 and older antique car show will be presented with their trophy after the cruise, during an intermission period of the 2017 Downtown Sounds summer concert. Hobbs August Nites is completely free and open to the public. Guests of all ages are welcome.
