SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department is promoting virtual tours and exhibits of New Mexico's cultural and outdoor resources so residents and prospective travelers can experience New Mexico from the comforts of home.
The Tourism Department has put together a list of over 40 immersive experiences, virtual tours, and online exhibits and classrooms so residents and prospective visitors can experience New Mexico while continuing to adhere to stay-at-home orders and social distancing practices.
"We know how hard physical distancing has been for New Mexicans all across the state," said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. "Staying home is absolutely, unequivocally essential for saving lives, mitigating strain and stress on our health care workers and first responders - but it's hard. I'm incredibly grateful to our incredible team at the Tourism Department and our partners for putting together these virtual experiences. This is a great way to 'get out while staying home' this weekend."
"Even while social distancing, we can still share the sights, sounds and experiences that make New Mexico True," said Cabinet Secretary Jen Paul Schroer. "By sharing these immersive experiences, we hope New Mexicans find a hidden treasure to explore and future travelers feel inspired to visit us when the time is right."
The Tourism Department hosts a Youtube playlist of 360 videos where users can soar in a hot air balloon, wander the corridors of Meow Wolf, and cruise through some of New Mexico's great neighborhoods. Users can experience New Mexico TRUE in 360 with a virtual reality head set or on a traditional viewing screen.
The Tourism Department will also be promoting virtual tours, virtual classrooms and online exhibits so people can learn and explore New Mexico's culture, heritage and outdoors. Users can peruse many of the collections and exhibits managed by the Department of Cultural Affairs, take a virtual tour of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, and browse the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, among many more experiences.
The Tourism Department will continue to promote these virtual experiences through social media during the emergency public health order. People can engage with many of these experiences by computer or smartphone.
