Destination Forward Accessibility Pilot Grant

As part of the New Mexico Tourism Department’s (NMTD) commitment to increase accessibility and accessible tourism across New Mexico, NMTD is funding equipment and installation/construction costs for powered, height-adjustable universal changing tables at qualified facilities through a pilot grant award, in partnership with Destination Accessibility™ and Changing Spaces New Mexico.
 
This grant opportunity is designed to help empower New Mexican communities to become inclusive and welcoming destinations, as well as to enhance accessibility for tourism, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The grant will award projects that are designed to help make travel more accessible for people with disabilities and their caregivers by increasing public restroom access.

 

Who is Eligible to Apply?

  • Governmental entities, including Special Districts, state agencies, etc.
  • Tribal governments
  • Municipalities
  • *Non-profit organizations must partner with a governmental entity to serve as their fiscal agent

*Fiscal agents and signatories must be authorized to sign agreements/contracts on behalf of the organization.

 
Eligible Projects: 
  • Restricted to purchasing and installing approved powered height-adjustable adult changing stations that are permanently installed within a gender-neutral/family restroom in a publicly accessible facility including associated construction costs related to retrofitting.
  • Installation should not interfere with ADA compliance.
  • Capacity to carry out installation including examples of previous projects if applicable.
  • Current facility accessibility data.
  • Map of facility or premise indicating where the table will be installed.
  • Maintenance Plan
