International Day of the Forest is on March 21st. To celebrate, we are doing a countdown, featuring one of New Mexico's incredible national forests every day until March 21st.

Day 1: Carson National Forest

Carson National Forest a truly special place. Often known as the beginning of the Rockies, the forest is also home to the tallest peak in New Mexico (Wheeler Peak, 13,161 ft). Carson has an astounding variety of landscapes and activities. Spend the day exploring Echo Amphitheater, the 5 wilderness areas, or go fishing at Eagle Rock Lake. If hiking is your thing, Carson National Forest is home to the Devisadaro Loop Trail, a steady climb through two different types of forests. During the winter months, cross-country skiing abounds.

Check out the National Parks Volunteer Service for opportunities to help the forest out! You can also contact the staff at Carson for more information.
