We have been told that the hotel has a lady ghost who lives upstairs and visits the dining room on occasion, using the hidden staircase. Our dining room was once the lobby of the El Monte Hotel, built circa 1890s. The Saloon dates back to 1898. Back then gold nuggets from the mining camps in Baldy Town & Elizabethtown passed over the gambling tables. That’s over 110 years of history. Imagine New Mexico Governors and other well-to-do elite mixing with gold miners and mountain men in outlaw casinos and a hotel of ill repute.
