The El Sombrero Cafe has valued loyal and new patrons for almost 6 decades. Our goal for you is simple…. we promise to serve you the freshest homemade food of the highest quality. El Sombrero Patio Cafe was established by Ofelia Carrillo in 1956. The original cafe was located at 425 N. Church St. which is adjacent to the Las Cruces Post Office. Mrs. Carrillo and her husband, Sammy Carrillo, also owned and ran Carrillo’s Plumbing and Heading, which was located where the Las Cruces Post Office is now. She continued both businesses while raising 2 children. Mrs. Carrillo pioneered 40 years in the restaurant business with her daughter, Patricia (Pat) Crawley at her side. They both saw and experienced the many changes in the restaurant business and have prospered with the ever changing future of the food industry. Pat continued the business after her mother retired in 1989, and has continued the El Sombrero with her mother as her mentor. Mrs. Carrillo loved and had such a great passion for her cafe. Her recipes and the same great flavors remain unchanged to this day. Pat’s desire is to keep her mother’s dream alive and to flourish. Pat welcomes new and old patrons to visit the El Sombrero Patio Cafe that has remained true with time in the last 6 decades.
