Hacienda Vargas offers the sights, sounds and scents of New Mexico. In the past, the site was used as a stagecoach stop and a train station. Few roads evoke such romantic images of the American Southwest as the El Camino Real. The historic route linking Mexico City and Santa Fe is one of the oldest thoroughfares in the United States. Since the 16th Century, explorers, soldiers, adventurers and now guests from around the world travel this route seeking gold, land and happiness. Into the 20th Century, it continued to serve as a main highway by its designation as U.S. Route 66. Nestled in the Rio Grande Valley, Hacienda Vargas is located in the village of Algodones. The village is nestled between the two Indian Pueblos Santa Ana and San Felipe and surrounded by farmlands and Cottonwood trees. The Hacienda provides a respite for travelers in its adobe walls and a sense of timeliness while in reality is only minutes from Bernalillo, Placitas, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. In addition, our historic chapel hosts elopements for just the couple and our grounds for weddings and events up to 150. Whether it be a night's rest as you are traveling, a central point for hitting most of New Mexico's many sights, a personal retreat, a wedding or a family renunion, Hacienda Vargas offers comfort and caring service.
