Rio Grande Stables has offered guided Horseback Trail Rides in Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico for about 15 years. Each May the Big Bend*Lajitas Stables loads-up their friendly, gentle steeds into the trailer and follows the Rio Grande river north from the Mexico/US borderlands of far West Texas up to the Sanggre de Cristo Mountains of Taos, New Mexico. Throughout the summer months till early September, we become Rio Grande Stables & host numerous visitors to the high mountain trails on 1, 2, 3, 4 Hour Rides, 1/2 Days w Lunch Rides & All Day Rides in the mountain tops above the Taos Ski Valley. Our professionally trained guides invite you to join us at 9200' to mount-up and explore the high elevations by horseback. Our shorter rides are perfect for children 6 years and older as well as the more senior family members; though anyone of any age/statue have been seen enjoying these shorter saddle times. Depending on trail conditions, 3-4 hour rides take us above treeline,show-casing the spectacular mountain tops of the Taos Mountains (as locally named). Lunch rides give us more time to take in the view. All Day Horseback Rides to Gold Hill climb to above 11,000', while Wheeler Peak rides carry us to above 13,000' & the tallest peak in New Mexico. (These rides are available June or later) We usually can handle walk-in visitors but Reservations are preferred. Don't miss out on your horseback ride while visiting the Taos Ski Valley and surrounding New Mexico attractions. Saddle up!
