After moving to Mountainair, New Mexico in 1908, Clem “Pop” Shaffer built the Shaffer Hotel in 1923. The Shaffer Hotel is a registered National Historical site and one of the few examples of Pueblo-Deco architecture still in existence today. Additionally, the Shaffer Hotel And Dining Room has become known as a supernatural hot-spot and tourist attraction. In fact, it has been said that “Pop” Shaffer himself still roams the halls. Recently, the Shaffer Hotel as been refreshed with contemporary accommodations while preserving its old fashioned elegance and historical importance. The Shaffer Hotel features 19 rooms ranging from a simple “cowboy” room (that shares a spacious community bath) to our elegant wedding suite with two elegant claw-foot bathtubs and a wet bar. Additional options include double-suites for families and there are plenty of standard rooms with private bathrooms. All hotel rooms are furnished with antique furniture from its era. Guests are invited to enjoy our large outdoor park crowned with an Art Deco Gazebo, fire pit and covered patio.
