The Southwest Model Railroad Club (SWMRC) is an educational club whose members have a common interest in HO-scale model railroading using Direct Current (DC) control. Members meet regularly to share their common interest and collective knowledge of model railroading and railroading history.
The SWMRC moved into our current location at the Mid-Valley Air Park (MVAP) in Los Lunas in 2015 and continues to host bi-annual Vendor Shows/Swap Meets with large modular layout exhibits and various other exhibit shows throughout the community.
The public is encouraged to come visit our permanent layout for free during set hours. Special tours, school groups, and other larger groups can schedule visits outside of regular hours by making an appointment. We have a strong focus on education in all things related to railroading – both in the real world and in the model world. We are pleased to host school group tours and have customized presentations upon request.
Our Club teaches teamwork (set up and running of temporary layouts, coordination of run schedules), electrical and mechanical maintenance, carpentry, socializing with a diverse range of people, scale modeling, and associated art forms related to decorating the modules. With regular business hours and monthly meetings, there is ample opportunity for everyone to be as involved as they choose.
