Andrew Weber of Shiprock was enjoying the book American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road, by Nick Bilton, but was astonished to read, on page 100, that the town of Alamosa, Colorado, “was just north of the New Mexico border, so it was a perfect smuggling port to get coke and meth into the country.” Sounds like that epic hunt might take a wee bit longer than the criminal mastermind thought, seeing as Alamosa is about 400 miles north of the Mexican border, as the crow flies.
AND THE MOUNTIES DELIVERED IT
When Dell Computers notified David Gamble that his warranty had lapsed, he nearly threw the letter into the recycling bin. But then he noticed that the missive had somehow gotten to him despite being addressed to “Santa Fe, NM, CANADA.” “Dell is headquartered in Texas,” he said, “so you’d think they would have a clue.”

Patrick Vigil of Albuquerque snapped a pic of his TV screen when MSNBC reported on immigration with this headline: “Crossing the desert along New Mexico’s remote border.” Behind the story’s image of Border Patrol agents, sea waves lapped onto our desert “shore.”
THORN IN OUR SIDE
Californian Eric Dobratz bought a Hot Wheels car devoted to “Road 14 Turquoise Trail”—not for the car but for the saguaro cactus printed on the package. “Maybe NM 14’s been relocated to Arizona?” he asked.
