Eagle Nest has always been known as a laid-back mountain town.

The sidewalks and old-fashioned streetlights, park benches and flower boxes along Eagle Nest's main street make a stroll through the village a pleasure. Eagle Nest is a haven for fishermen and other outdoor lovers, and a gateway to the Enchanted Circle. The Village of Eagle Nest is situated on the north shore of majestic Eagle Nest Lake, is a nature lovers paradise.

The Village known today as Eagle Nest has a wonderful and storied past of gunslingers, ghost towns, gold mining and gossiping.  The Village has been the crossroads of many frontier Indians and pioneers for centuries.  The famed ‘Colfax County War’ and byway and lore of Kit Carson’s adventures have taken place near and are in the pages of Eagle Nest history books.   Visit nearby Elizabeth Town and Virginia City which both where vibrant and growing towns in the mining boom days with lots of stories to tell which you can see in their relics of their past. 

Once known as Therma, the Village adopted the name of Eagle Nest after the completion of the Eagle Nest Lake dam, which is celebrating its 100 year anniversary.  For the next two years we will observe this historic event with dam tours and historical ranch outings schedule during the spring, summer and fall.   Also known as the ‘Home of the Browns’ the lake provides year round fishing for Trout and Salmon.  The howl of the coyotes can be heard and the tracks of the elk, deer, bear and mountain lions will be found frequently along our self guided “Walking Tour”.

Home to less than 300 people year round, we enjoy several months of skiing in winter and we are located within a short drive to Angel Fire, Red River and Taos Ski areas.  When freezing nights give way to the mild days and cool evenings of spring and summer,  the Village population soars like the mountain peaks that surround it.  Lots of activity on any given day down the historic main drag that is home to our lodges, restaurants, gift and specialty stores as well as the community centers that our here to help you during your next visit.  Once here you may not want to go back to where you came and that OK with us and our town folks.

Please visit our Calendar of Events and then make you plans to start and finish your visit to the Enchanted Circle right here in the Village of Eagle Nest.  We are home the well renown wildlife preservation event know as the ‘Bear Benefit’ in June and we have the finest 4th of July Celebration and great music festivals with arts, crafts, New Mexico’s own breweries and wineries  and great entertainment all summer and fall long.
