The National Governors Association (NGA) announced that New Mexico will host the nation’s governors in 2018 for its annual Summer Meeting.
“Summertime in Santa Fe is the perfect time for governors from across the country to gather and share ideas and reforms that are making our states better,” New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez said. “This is great news for New Mexico, and I’m very much looking forward to sharing all our state has to offer with my fellow governors.”
“We’re so excited to gather in the great state of New Mexico next summer,” said NGA Executive Director and CEO Scott Pattison. “We thank Gov. Martinez for her offer to host, and we look forward to traveling to the Land of Enchantment for this crucial meeting where governors can share best practices and innovative approaches to some of the country’s most pressing issues.”
New Mexico was selected for its excellent accommodations and venue options, as well as its overall appeal. Location, hotel, venue space, transportation, security and volunteer needs are just some of the criteria the state’s bid met.
This marks the first time New Mexico has hosted the NGA Summer Meeting.
The Summer Meeting is one of two official business meetings NGA holds each year. The next convening of the nation’s governors will be July 13-15, 2017, in Providence, Rhode Island.
