To honor, promote and showcase the creative work produced by fiber artists across New Mexico, the Española Fiber Arts Center (EVFAC) is launching its inaugural New Mexico Fiber Crawl, taking place May 13-14, over Mother’s Day weekend, and beginning with Friday night Kick-off Parties on May 12. This free event takes you on a tour of cultural centers, stores, museums, farms and the studios of local Fiber Artists from Albuquerque to Taos. The New Mexico Fiber Crawl promises to be an unforgettable experience for everyone.

During the two-day event participants will be given a free Fiber Crawl Passport and a map with a list of artists and sites along the trail. There are four regions that cluster activities within geographical areas, allowing participants  to “tour the Crawl and join in the community events while sight-see our beautiful Northern New Mexico along the way” April Jouse, EVFAC Director of Operations suggests.

Each site will offer discounts, demonstrations and events to draw in the curious and those who want to learn a  skill or meet the artists. Shops such as The Yarn Store at Nob Hill in ABQ, Looking Yarn & Gifts in Santa Fe, Warm Hearts in Los Alamos and Vortexyarn in Taos, will all feature local artists, their work and present local products for sale. Farms such as Que Sera Alpacas, Wide Sky Ranch and Rancho de los Sueños will offer access to fiber animals and will sell yarns and products made from their fiber. Participating galleries and museums in Santa Fe invite exclusive access to their collections. Shops such as the Tapestry Galley in Madrid, Laura Sheppherd Atelier, Bridal in Santa Fe and Artemisia in Taos represent many local Fiber Artists, who will be present to talk about their work. “Before the weekend, see all the sites and events on the NM Fiber Crawl website (www.NMFiberCrawl.org) to plan your Crawl” Jouse recommends.
