We, at the New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD), are excited to announce the FY20 Clean & Beautiful Partners. Overall, local governments throughout New Mexico are set to leverage nearly $650,000 to develop and sustain programs that curb litter, reduce blight, and support beautification, recycling, and education initiatives.
“We’re incredibly grateful for all of our forests, trails, public lands, parks and open spaces here in New Mexico, and we take great pride in preserving those resources,” said Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Jen Paul Schroer. “The New Mexico Clean & Beautiful Grant Program encourages communities to take pride in their outdoor resources and empowers those communities to lead beautification efforts in their own backyard.”
NMTD awarded a total of $646,399 to 38 local governments for the FY20 grant cycle. NMTD awarded funding for the New Mexico Clean & Beautiful program to communities that demonstrate devotion to environmental stewardship and keeping New Mexico True.
In FY18, the New Mexico Clean & Beautiful program produced an estimated 4.3 million pounds of recycled materials, collected close to 2.5 million pounds of waste, and cleaned an estimated 476 acres of parks, public lands and open spaces.
“The New Mexico Tourism Department is committed to growing tourism in a responsible and sustainable way,” Secretary Schroer said. “This program affords the opportunity to work with communities to ensure our outdoor spaces are clean and beautiful for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
