New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Praised for Statewide Community Improvement Initiatives

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, presented New Mexico Clean and Beautiful with a Diamond State Affiliate Recognition Award at Keep America Beautiful’s National Awards Ceremony, which took place during its 2018 National Conference in Dallas, Texas.

New Mexico Clean and Beautiful was one of more than 80 individuals and organizations from communities across America to receive national recognition. Keep America Beautiful’s National Awards acknowledge the passion, dedication and impact of Keep America Beautiful’s affiliates, partner organizations and individuals from across the nation who share Keep America Beautiful’s vision of a country in which every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live. Celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2018, Keep America Beautiful consists of a national network of more than 600 statewide and community-based affiliates whose programs and initiatives, supported by millions of volunteers, help transform public spaces into beautiful places.

New Mexico Clean and Beautiful was honored for its outstanding promotion of Keep America Beautiful’s mission statewide and for its program support for local affiliates in New Mexico, distinguishing itself as an exemplary statewide affiliate organization.

New Mexico Clean and Beautiful earned the Diamond for its implementation of multiple community improvement programs, including:

  • New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant provides compelling reasons and ample opportunities for New Mexicans to participate in local events and projects that focus on litter reduction, recycling initiatives, and beautification efforts. The New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant supports local and tribal communities in identifying projects and events that lend themselves to a more pristine and environmentally friendly state, which is accomplished through matching grant funds. For the FY18 grant cycle, $623,600 was awarded to 48 communities.
  • Keep New Mexico True Program aims to foster an environment of engaged citizens and volunteers who actively seek out opportunities to contribute to projects and events funded by the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant. This is accomplished through the program’s objective of year-round public education and outreach. The New Mexico Tourism Department showcases its Keep New Mexico True program through television and radio advertisements throughout the year, leading up to a series of community cleanups. The ads encourage New Mexicans to go online to and take the pledge – by filling out a short online form – to Keep New Mexico True. On the form, they can signify if they want to reduce their environmental impact, contribute through community cleanups, or encourage others to keep New Mexican clean and beautiful.

The New Mexico Tourism Department is grateful to its Keep New Mexico True partners for helping build this award-winning program and fueling in-state pride with their commitment. We could not accomplish our mission without you.
