SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) is awarding $1 million in grant funding for beautification and litter reduction to 67 communities throughout New Mexico for fiscal year 2025.

The $1 million in grant funding is a record for the department’s Clean and Beautiful Grant Program. Additionally, the 67 program participants in FY25 is also a new record for NMTD.

“There is a continued need for the state to help communities eliminate litter and make public spaces pleasant for residents and visitors alike,” said Acting Tourism Secretary Lancing Adams. “The Tourism Department is happy to step in and do our part to keep New Mexico True.”

NMTD issued $906,958 in grant funding to 59 entities through the Clean and Beautiful Grant Program in FY24.

Roughly 43 percent of grant funding in FY25 is dedicated for the goal to end littering. Additionally, 23 percent of funding is dedicated for youth empowerment and 21 percent is allocated for community beautification. The remaining grant funding will go towards reducing waste and increasing program capacity for grant recipients.

NMTD is committed to supporting cleanup initiatives and beautification efforts of rural communities through the Clean and Beautiful Grant Program in FY25. New Mexico’s rural communities are set to receive roughly 77 percent of grant funding through this program for FY25.

The Clean and Beautiful Grant Program is one of the various programs the state implements to combat litter and beautify communities. Earlier this year, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) announced the creation of the Que Linda Beautification Program which provides funding to support the development and implementation of a local beautification program. Applications for this program close August 15, 2024.
