Lucy Stanus joins the New Mexico Tourism Department as the Clean and Beautiful Program Coordinator.
Lucy grew up in Virginia Beach, but is excited to call New Mexico home. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Political Science and International Studies, she moved to Latin America to do work relating to human rights and the environment. Most notably, she served as a coordinator for an international network of native communities combatting the impacts of climate change. Her passion for education then brought her to the Land of Enchantment, working as a first grade teacher in Crownpoint for the past three years.
In her spare time, you can find Lucy hiking with her dog or checking out some live music. You might even catch her picking up litter at a music festival; she has been working and volunteering in waste management at outdoor events across the country for the past 10 years. Lucy is thrilled to bring together her passions and expertise in sustainability, waste diversion, and education to her new role as Clean and Beautiful Program Coordinator with the Tourism Department.

A: My favorite New Mexican dish is Navajo tacos. I used to serve them at the Crownpoint Rug Auction to fundraise for Crownpoint Elementary School and they are delicious!
Q: What is your favorite thing about New Mexico?
A: Being from the east coast, I love how I am able to see such far distances here, especially on the Colorado Plateau. Being able to see so far really provides a unique sense of place. New Mexico also has the most beautiful landscapes and epic sunsets that I have ever seen.
