SANTA FE, NM– The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) has announced its sponsorship support of Mayfest in the Mountains, a new family-friendly festival taking place Memorial Day weekend (May 25–27, 2024) in the Town of Red River, New Mexico.

The festival will pay tribute to veterans with a Wall of Honor Display and offer an array of cultural and recreational activities. The NMTD sponsorship will help support the Wall of Honor Display as well as outdoor recreation workshops and live music. A truly local festival, all participating businesses, artisans, and vendors are from the greater Red River area.

“The New Mexico Tourism Department is excited for the first-ever Mayfest in the Mountains and to aid Red River in ushering in this new celebration. This is the kind of mountain-town festival families can build a new tradition around: traveling to picturesque Red River, honoring our veterans, and kicking off summer with art, music, nature, adventure, and local music and food,” said Acting Tourism Secretary Lancing Adams.

“Red River is grateful for New Mexico Tourism Department’s support that helps makes it possible to share and celebrate our local culture at Mayfest in the Mountains with both visitors and New Mexicans. With an array of activities that showcase Red River for three full days, this will be a festival families will want to return to year after year,” said Town of Red River Economic Development and Tourism Director Max Khudiakov.

Featured activities include:

  • Wall of Honor Display at the Red River Conference Center
Outdoor Recreation Workshops: fly-fishing, skateboarding, disc golf, mountain biking, rock climbing, and more.

  • Plein Air Competition and Exhibit: Capturing the essence of Red River’s scenic landscape in its natural light, the resulting artworks will be showcased in an exhibit at the Red River Community House.

  • Family-Friendly Games and Activities: Two highlights include all-ages chalk art and the chance to meet special guest alpacas who will be visiting. Family activities will be hosted at venues across town.

  • New Mexico Game & Fish Department Exhibit: Explore the wonders of nature with the New Mexico Game & Fish Department exhibit, featuring the Trophy Trailer.

  • Live Music: Performances by local talent from Red River and Taos County, including country and americana bands.

The festival’s lineup of events will take place at multiple venues throughout the town, including the Red River Conference Center, Brandenburg Park, Mallette Park, Town Ponds, and more.
