Jonna comes from a family of artists. Like her family, she has always been involved in the arts in various forms.
She attended California College of Arts in Berkley, CA, and finished her Bachelor of Arts in Art and Theater in New Mexico.
She spent her career as a Graphic Illustrator and Landscape Designer. She taught drawing and landscape design at Oklahoma State University, where she was selected for the Swede Emborg Endowment, the Horticulture Technology Award, and was also included in Who’s Who in American Colleges & Universities. Jonna’s commissioned works include architectural and landscape renderings, logos, and numerous pieces for private collections.
Jonna has had solo shows at the Embry Gallery in Oklahoma City. She has been featured in exhibitions at Warren Fine Art and Collectibles (Albuquerque, NM), Oklahoma State University, Evans Gallery (Oklahoma City, OK), 50 Penn Place Art Gallery (Oklahoma City, OK), Peoples Bank (Taos, NM), and Aspen Gallery Taos (Taos, NM). Jonna has also been juried into various national shows. They include the 2016 & 2017 Flight Shows in Tubac, Arizona, taking home an award of Excellence in 2017 and the Edmond (Oklahoma) Arts Festival, where she won a People’s Choice Award and the Award of Merit. The New Mexico Art League included Jonna in their Small Works Holiday Show. In 2018, she had three pieces juried into the New Mexico Masterworks Miniatures show, two pieces juried into the New Mexico Masterworks show, and three pieces juried into Encantada, a national show, where she won an Award of Excellence. Starting 2019 with a bang, Jonna has been juried into The Crow Show at the Studio Door in San Diego California and Masterworks NM. She was awarded the Gallery ABQ Award for her collection of miniatures, and an Award of Excellence.
She conveys a strong sense of design, using vibrant colors, combined with graphic elements and complex patterns. Her intricate style is creative, imaginative, and original.
Painting has allowed her to express a passion for color, detail, creativity, and a sense of humor and whimsy. She hopes her work brings you the sense of joy and happiness that she feels creating them!
