Conveniently located near the city limits of Carlsbad The La Cueva Non-Motorized Trail System covers approximately 2,200 acres and contains more than 15 miles of maintained trails. The non-motorized trails are primarily used by mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians. The area is managed by the BLM. The trails wind through the rolling limestone foothills of the Guadalupe Mountains and the rugged Chihuahuan Desert environment. A wide variety of cactus and wildlife add to the desert experience. At this site, you can enjoy hiking, horse-back riding, watching wildlife. The trails also offer challenging mountain biking opportunities for all levels of riders. There are no facilities here other than a parking area and trail signs. The area is open year-round, and can be very hot during the summer. It is highly recommended to carry lots of water.
