The Orilla Verde Recreation Area is located south of Taos along the Río Grande Wild and Scenic River. This is the southern section of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Camping, fishing, river rafting, photography,and hiking are but a few activities that Orilla Verde Recreation Area offers. The Area is also a great place for wildlife viewing, including raptors (such as eagles and hawks), big horn sheep, mule deer, and more. Orilla Verde is open year-round. The Visitor Center is open from May 1 through October, 7 days per week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 7 days per week. Self-service pay stations are located at developed campgrounds and day use sites. • Day Use: $3.00/day per vehicle to use the area for 30 minutes or more. An annual day use pass, good for the calendar year, is available for $20.00. • Camping: $7.00/night for one vehicle, $10.00 for two. Maximum 2 vehicles and 8 people per site. Annual day use passes do not apply to camping fees. A maximum of 8 people are allowed per campsite. There is a maximum of two vehicles per site. Individual campsite checkout time is 10 a.m. Group shelter checkout time is 11 a.m. RV Sites: $15.00 per night, includes water and electrical hookups,and no sewer. Designated Primitive Campsites: $5.00/night. Group Shelters: $30.00 per day, $40.00 per night.
