The Silver City Golf Course is a municipal daily fee golf course and is home to the Western New Mexico University Mustangs Men’s and Mustangs Women’s golf programs. Par is 72 and is divided into an upper and lower nine with 37 and 35 being par respectively. At 6,500 yards from the gold tees, and at an elevation of 6,000 feet, one would think that the course would yield to some excitingly low scores. Try to conquer the narrow tree lined fairways with waste areas just waiting to swallow up an errant shot. While you are staring down that beautiful green in an attempt to make that birdie or if you have the length, that eagle try, you will become addicted to the approach shot because of the gorgeous surrounding views. But then, just wait till your ball trickles off the edges and over the green or woefully short when all you had was 125 yards to get it to the middle. Yes you guessed it, some of the smallest postage stamp type greens you’ll encounter with most of them elevated and surrounded by a mishmash of rough or strategically positioned bunkers. The greens however, roll great and will grab your ball on a dime depending on what time of day it is. The undulations in the greens will keep you guessing throughout all 18 holes. Pick a line any line and the locals will tell you to just know that most putts will pull towards Deming, NM. If you don’t know where Deming is you might be paired up with a few locals and you’ll get fingers pointed in several different directions. Come Play!
